Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
In another bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and buttermilk together until smooth.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and dark chocolate chunks until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few crumbs.
Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
For serving, once cooled, sprinkle the top of the cake with milk chocolate shavings for a decorative touch.
Slice and serve as is, or with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream on the side for an extra indulgent treat.
Notes
For a richer flavor, serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
